Dong Hanh scholarship fund had a warm ceremony on Saturday to celebrate its tenth birthday at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, with the attendance of students who received support from the fund.
The fund, which was established in July 2001, has granted scholarships to a total of 1,769 students across Vietnam worth VND3 billion (US$ US$146,300).
“The value of the support was not much financially, but it is the love and enthusiasm of organizers who were once overseas students in France,” said the fund’s vice chairwoman To Dieu Khanh.
“Sympathizing the hardship and difficulties of students, six former students joined to organize the fund in hope of helping later brothers.”
The six students mobilized other Vietnamese fellow students studying in France to join for holding musical events and entertainment gala and food sales at public parties in France to raise fund.
At the ceremony, Ph.D. Nguyen Thien Tong, deputy chief of Cuu Long university and an active member of the fund’s management board, honestly reminded scholarship recipients to offer their support later to younger generation of students.
“Please don’t thank us, what you should do instead is to study to build up your successful fortune and then return to help the fund to extend further assistance to younger students,” he said.
Early this year, Dong Hanh fund was honored with “Chim En” (Swift) Award – a prize set up by FPT company to honor organizations and individuals for having excellent non-profit contribution to society.
